Hawaii Week Begins!

Yesterday we started Hawaii week. I put a beach scene video on the Smart Board and played traditional Hawaiian music.  We learned all about leis and there function in the Hawaiian culture.  Then, we made some of our own to wear for the week.  Later in the day we learned about Pele, the fire goddess.  This week, we will also be writing about Hawaii, making Hawaiian crafts, eating some Hawaiian food, watching a Hawaiian movie and more! HAWAII, HAWAII, HAWAII!

Today, we took the Fundations test for unit 7.  For the most part, the scores were really good.  There were a few that were below the 80% we are looking for.  I sent the kids scores home on either a green or orange index card.  They should be in their BEE folders today.  Unit 8 will start sometime this week.  It is only meant to be a one week unit but, with MAP testing next week, I am going to give it some more time.

We also began working with money.  Whenever you find an opportune moment, please help the kids learn to identify coins and their worth.  Once we have that down, it will be much easier to add and subtract the coins.
Friday is an early release day (11:05).  Have a good rest of your day!
