Bring on the Sunshine

It's MAY! I pulled off the April Calendar page in our classroom and the kids and I got so excited! I pointed to May 29th and said, "This is it.  The last month you'll be second graders."  I got a lot more upset faces than usual.  I love these kids and it is good to know they will miss my classroom, even if only a little bit. However, we are definitely having spring fever and this week was rough for all of us.  But, we can see the end and that is going to motivate all of us to do what needs to be done! Oh! I almost forgot... there favorite part of the May calendar page was when I wrote in their LAST Fundations test! That got an awfully loud cheer:)

This last week, we had Mrs. Anderson (hearing specialist) and Lexi give a presentation on noise awareness.  It was wonderful and the kids learned a lot.  We all had ear plugs in and kept them on for the morning to see how it felt to lose part of our hearing.  The kids thought it was awesome and so did I!

On Earth Day we went to the ICF property and the kids got to hear about ground water and how hazardous waste affects our environment. Then we went on a hike.  It was a great change of pace.

Be warned... This month will be CRAZY! We have a lot going on!  I'll be adding things in throughout the month to keep us going strong.  Below is a list of what we are planning so far and below that are some pictures!

May 4- Matilda Movie afternoon and snacks
May 5- Cinco de Mayo- We will be trying some Mexican foods and learning a little about the culture
May 8- FINAL Fundations test (unit 16)
May 11-14- MAP testing
May 15- MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY (BE AT SCHOOL BY 7:20 AND PICKED UP AT 4:15)
May 21- Trip to 3rd street for ice cream (on me)
May 22- Track and Field Day (lunch is provided)
May 25 -No school
May 28- a black tie affair for all second graders (more to come on this)
May 29- Sumner park and LAST DAY :(

It was AMAZING seeing my kiddos perform in Wizard of Oz.  I felt proud and honored to be their teacher!

Mrs. Anderson and Lexi giving their presentation.

Mayson LOVED his ear plugs. He still wears them sometimes to help him concentrate.

These kids might drive me CRAZY sometimes, but I love them and life would be awfully boring without them!
