Thanksgiving!

We just finished up our AMAZING Italian feast.  The kids ate A LOT! My husband, Brice, made a ridiculous amount of noodles this morning and then brought them in for us.  We had the sauce in the crock pot all morning.  The kids were so gracious and had a great time feasting and enjoying the time together.  We are only a couple of days from Thanksgiving and I just want to sincerely thank all of you for trusting me with your awesome kids.  I could not be more thankful for all of them!

Below are some pictures from last week and our feast.  We got our shirts today! Make sure your kiddo wears their shirt on Monday.  Have an amazing Thanksgiving and enjoy the long weekend with your wonderful second grader!

Dance Party!!!

Thank you to everyone who donated to Hoo Haven by wearing a hat for a quarter this week! It has been really fun seeing all of the neat and creative head gear.

We started Fundations centers this week.  I am all about making sure kids are getting instruction at their level and we already do that with reading and math so, why not Fundations?  The kids seem to be enjoying it and I am too.

I instituted a new privilege for our Bumblebee of the Week.  They are now allowed to call out DANCE PARTY at transition times once a day.  Then, we drop everything, close the door, turn off the lights, turn the music up REALLY loud and DANCE.  It makes for a great and much needed break in the day.

Speaking of Bumblebee of the Week... Kadin is it this week! Kadin has worked really hard to become a good leader! Awesome job Kadin!

Next week is a 2 day week.  We will be having our Italian feast on Tuesday.  I will be providing lunch that day for the kids (spaghetti, bread, etc.)  They will need their own drink.  That day will also be pajama day!

Tomorrow is our Jog-a-Thon and Pie the Teacher assembly! Have a great weekend!

Our Big Dreams

This week has been full of a lot of new things for us.  We have started subtraction with regrouping, a new Fundations unit, new books in reading groups and more.  In math, subtraction with regrouping is a difficult concept for kids to wrap their minds around.  So, I remembered a little jingle that my 3rd grade teacher used when we were learning it; "Like a good neighbor (insert number) is there." It seems to have stuck and we have been using it an awful lot in math groups.

During our shared reading time we read a book called, "My Name is Not Isabella,"  It is one of my favorite books ever.  As you saw on the homework, the book talked about different women in history that have made a difference.  After we read the books, the kids were asked to come up with what their big dream was.  I always participate in these things as well.  I shared mine, which is to be a mom someday and then several of the kids yelled, "You already are a mom." To which, I responded not yet.  Then they all chimed in and said "You are like our mom at school, you call us your kids."  That warmed my heart.  You all have amazing kids and I am lucky to teach them.  They are so sweet and kind and they have really taken what I said to heart about our class being a family.

Miley was voted our Bumblebee of the Week this week.  She is always so kind to everyone. Yay Miley!

We will have a Fundations check up tomorrow and I will do my best to get that home to you tomorrow as well.  Have a great weekend and let me know if you have any questions!

Halloween

Halloween was so much fun! Thank you to everyone that helped out and attended. We had a really busy day leading up to the festivities and they were wonderful all day.  The next day however...
they were exhausted! So, we had an easy Friday.

In honor of the Monday night football game, I am asking the kids to wear their football attire.  Also, we get out at 1:35 on Wednesday and there is no school on Thursday or Friday.  I will see all of you at conferences.  The book fair starts tomorrow and runs all week long.  It will be open the whole time  during conferences.

Here are some Halloween pictures... Have a great Sunday!
