Safety First

On Tuesday, we spent a portion of the morning outside on the blacktop learning about safety.  First, we went on a school bus and two of the drivers were kind enough to go over bus rules and safety.  At the end, we were able to do a trial bus evacuation.  After that, the fire department set up shop next door to the bus and we were able to learn all about calling 911.  Four of the kids even got to make a mock 911 call.  One of the things that the kids NEED to know is their phone number.  I found out that many of them don't know it by heart yet.  We really had a great time learning!

We also got our FIRST letter from our pen pals this week! They are from New York and they are also in second grade.  We spent some time writing and rewriting letters to them.  We also sent drawings and pictures to them.  This is a great way to practice letter writing throughout the year.

A few reminders...

-Jog-a-thon is tomorrow! The kids have t-shirts at school that I will put over their clothes to wear while we run.  Make sure they have layers and they can bring a water bottle to school.
-Tomorrow is also an 11:05 dismissal.
-Permission slips and money are due tomorrow for field trips.
-No school on Monday.
-Please do XTRAMATH nightly.

Have a great 3 day weekend!
