Concerts and Chromebooks

We are so close to our concert! It is on Thursday, February 5th at 6:30 at the high school. Students need to arrive between 6 and 6:10. We will NOT be having the open house at the elementary school.  Instead, you are welcome to come a little early or stay a little later at the high school to check out our fairy tales.  Please be sure to take your child's project home with you that night.  We have been working REALLY hard on our fairy tales and I am excited to see the dioramas that the kids are creating at home (due Monday).

On Wednesday we brought the Chromebook cart into our classroom and we went to work. Mr. H's 3rd grade class came in and helped us navigate Google. It was a lot of fun and the kids can't get enough.  I sent home log in information so they can do it at home too.  Every Wednesday morning will be Chromebook cart morning in our room.  The kids will have multiple tasks to accomplish that will cover all subject areas.  

Unit 9 test on Friday... I moved it up because the kids are ready.  Unit 10 will begin next week!

Our Last Few Weeks in Pictures

I have not been great at updating lately so, for now I am going to update you in pictures about our last few weeks.

CLASS SHIRTS! We are looking mighty cute.  The kids put their arms around each other on their own. I feel the love! 

We began a fairy tale unit.  The kids are working on making it to the Enchanted Castle by reading several fairy tales and going through hazards and completing travel tickets.

This is one of my favorite units ever! It gives them independence and they are having fun! 

We made cinnamon roll waffles on our pajama day.

The kids are loving our new floor/carpet.  It is super matched to our room! 

Second and a Half Graders!

Hopefully, this week will be totally normal and we will be back in a routine. We have started some new things this semester and I am super excited to get it all going. 

I was gone on Friday because I sprained my ankle.  I am on crutches, but I will be back tomorrow morning.  

Report cards come home on Thursday.  If you have any questions or anything after you get them, please let me know.   

Friday is an 11:05 dismissal and no school on Monday the 19th. 

We are starting music concert practices very soon for our concert on February 5th.  I cant wait! 

I am going to be giving the unit 8 Fundations test on Friday morning.  We have had so many interruptions and I just wanted to make sure the kids were ready.

Migration... Did you make it?

Yesterday, we went to the ICF property and it was a blast! First, we went and found some of the pumpkins we left on the property to see how they were decomposing.  After that we had some fun running and playing in the soy bean field that had recently been plowed.

Then, we learned some facts about birds and migration.  We played a game where the kids had to make it from one point to the other.  They were migrating just like birds and some of them sadly,  did not make it due to power lines, glass doors and other accidents that occurred.

Our final task was to make bird feeders out of pines cones, Crisco, and bird seed.  Once they all had one, they had to find a good place on the property to put it.

It was so much fun! We can't wait to go back in January!

All Aboard!

Thursday was Polar Express Day in room 7A.  This is one of my favorite days of the year and I love sharing it with my amazing kids!

The kids came in awfully comfortable today and ready for some lounging.  But, they seemed surprised when we still had work to do. We went to Santa's Workshop this morning and after that, we did some graphing and collecting data that had to do with Polar Express.  Afterwards we wrote about what we thought the first gift of Christmas should be. In the afternoon, we had a hot chocolate bar with lots of different choices and popcorn.  We enjoyed our treats while watching the Polar Express.

I am beyond grateful for this group of kids and sharing these fun days with them reminds me about how important these memories are for them.

Something about Absence and the Heart

I am so happy to be back in school today! I was lucky enough to attend the Raising Student Achievement Conference at Pheasant Run Resort with Mrs. Smallwood, Mrs. Wanke and Mrs. Wadsworth.  I was able to attend a lot of sessions and learn more about how to incorporate new and effective ideas into the classroom.  On Tuesday morning, Mrs. Wanke and I were chosen to present a session on Daily 5.  I love Daily 5 and think it is so amazing and beneficial in the classroom.
